Mathur Aqua Duct:

Covering a kilometre in length and 115 feet in elevation, Mathur Aqueduct or Mathoor Hanging Trough is amongst the longest and highest trough bridges in Asia. This impressive structure was constructed in 1966 over the Parazhiyar River (also called Pahrali) in Mathoor – a small settlement in Aruvikkarai.

It was due to the attempts of the former Chief Minister Thiru K. Kamaraj that this overpass was constructed for agricultural development and as a dryness relief measure. This concrete construction is supported by 28 huge columns and provides water for irrigation from Pattanamkal Canal (from one side of the hill to another).

Mathur Aqueduct is separated into two parts, a ditch canal and a road. Partly covered with cement slabs on top, the channel structure is 7.5 feet in width and 7 feet in height. Owing to its fame among tourist and locals alike, a flight of stairs was built here to make it available for guests to reach the overpass. A children’s park and numerous bathing platforms have also been produced in this area

Being on this bridge, guests will get pictorial views of the Western Ghats, flourishing vast expanse of greenery. Every individual view that you get from this point is worth taking.
